Overview

This three-hour walk with OceanAir Travels starts at Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant in the Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood and works its way through Old Dubai on foot, by boat, and back on foot again. You meet the guide, stroll the Al Seef promenade along the creek with a photo stop at a quaint mosque, and taste street food along the way, including Karak tea and samosas when that option is selected.

The middle of the tour belongs to an Emirati heritage house, where the welcome runs to dates, tea and Arabic coffee, with warm hospitality. Camel milk chocolate is also on the included list for the tour. After that the group boards an abra, the traditional boat that gives a boat ride along Dubai Creek. The last stretch is the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk, with their scents and noise, before the tour finishes there.

The tour runs in Spanish, Italian, English and German. Entry tickets for the museum and heritage sites are included, as is a bottle of water. No pickup is offered, so you make your own way to the meeting point, and infants are not recommended.

What To Expect From The Tour

A few practical points before you book, drawn from the listing and from what travellers say about the walk.

  • Getting there. There is no hotel pickup. You meet the guide at Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant in Al Fahidi and need to plan your own way there. Leave bags behind, since luggage and large bags are not allowed on the tour.
  • Pace and distance. This is a walking tour lasting three hours, so expect to be on your feet for most of it. One reviewer described the pace of the tour as excellent, and the tour summary describes it as well paced.
  • Food and drink. Street food, meaning Karak tea and samosas, is included when that option is selected. The heritage house visit adds dates, Arabic tea or coffee, and camel milk chocolate, and a bottle of water is provided.
  • Guide style. Reviewers again and again describe the guides as knowledgeable, friendly and easy to understand, with plenty of stories about Emirati culture and customs.
  • Weather. One reviewer specifically praised their guide for being considerate of their comfort in very hot weather. A bottle of water is included, and luggage or large bags are not allowed on the walk.
  • Shopping stops. The route ends among the Gold and Spice Souks. Some travellers felt the guidance around shopping stops and pricing could be clearer, so decide your budget before the last stretch.

Common issues. The Dubai Museum is temporarily closed, so the museum entry ticket in the package may not translate into a full museum visit. Some travellers also felt the shopping stops in the souks came with unclear guidance on pricing. The street food is only included if that option is selected, so check which option you are booking. Infants are not recommended, pets and large bags are not allowed, and tips are not included, though they are optional.
